Governance

Lyonbiopôle governance: a collective, complementary international-scale process, managed by a versatile team

As a result of the cluster building process, the Lyonbiopôle association brings together players, directly or potentially involved in R&D projects, that make the region’s firms and stakeholders even stronger.

The Lyonbiopôle association was created on November 8, 2005 during the founding general assembly, at which the members of the Board of Directors and Technical Group were named. These two bodies feature representatives from major groups, SMBs, start-ups, training centers and research centers or laboratories that are founding members of the association.

The Board of Directors

Lyonbiopôle’s Board is headed by Philippe Archinard, Managing Director of Transgene and Scientific Director of Mérieux Alliance. He was named as the successor to Docteur Christophe Mérieux on October 5, 2006.

The Board is composed of 10 members:

Local authorities are "permanent guests" on the Board:

  • Greater Lyon - Lionel Martinez
  • Rhône-Alpes Region – Henri Montès, Research and Innovation Division
  • Grenoble Alpes Métropole – Jacques Chevallier, Director of Economic Development.
  • DRIRE Rhône Alpes - Hedi Ben Brahim

The Technical Group

The Board of Directors created a Technical Group whose roles include:

  • 1. Tracking and reporting on Lyonbiopôle’s activities, in particular R&D projects and multi-disciplinary and joint actions.
  • 2. Analyzing R&D projects and proposing that the Board grant them the cluster label, while ensuring that the projects are consistent with Lyonbiopôle’s strategy.
  • 3. 3. Proposing strategies in order to bring in additional funding for Lyonbiopôle’s projects and joint actions.

The Technical Group has 8 members:

  2. Bringing in human and financial resources for the cluster’s projects
  3. Coordinating special events and communication between the firms and technical institutes
  4. Handling the promotion of Lyonbiopôle, its member firms and institutes and its R&D projects
