Mission and Actions

Mission

The French State has given the country’s competitive clusters a dual mission: to drive both innovation and the economy.

To fulfill this mission, Lyonbiopôle has a strong asset: it is a cluster focused on the fight against infectious diseases

  • relying on a trio of key players: firms, research organizations and training centers
  • managed by leading firms in their respective fields (sanofi pasteur, Merial, bioMérieux and BD) in cooperation with highly-committed SMBs and start-ups.

The cluster is moving ahead in order to create economic value and develop a "project factory":

  • by enhancing the nature and quality of the links between partners
  • by boosting public research in order to meet firms’ needs
  • by heightening the cluster’s international exposure and making it more attractive

Actions

To make this world-leading cluster even more dynamic and attractive, several types of actions have been undertaken:

   1. Offering support in the setup of R&D projects by bringing added value to project initiators throughout the process. This is done in order to guarantee the best chances that the project will move forward, both upstream in the setup phase and downstream in order to increase the likelihood of receiving sufficient funding.

   2. Creating the right conditions to generate new projects, new collaborative ventures and also to potentially develop quantum leap innovations.

          This involves:

                - Technological and scientific coordination

                - The creation of technological platforms including the Infectious Disease Center

                - The search for new sources of funding for R&D projects

   3. Marketing the cluster internationally in order to bring in new investments, set up cooperative ventures with outside partners and make the cluster even more attractive.
